Flyford continue their Wednesday night winning streak
Flyford faced Attwood Bank with Skipper Mark Davy looking to make it 4 and 0.
Having scratched around a little for players the required 11 was achieved some hours before the start, thanks to Archie Fenn for stepping in at the last moment.
Again, Flyford were to make use of a pitch that for Cutnall Green at the beginning of May is getting uncharacteristically dry, and true. Shout out to Derek who can only ever work with what nature gives him, but from where I stand behind the stumps this pitch is playing very well.
George Teal was once again at the top of the order seeking to take up where he left off last week. Indeed, he did, another 27 retired which included 3 quite mighty sixes. I am fairly sure that Attwood Bank were glad they had agreed the retire on 25 rule.
Matty Kirkham the other opener did not fair so well. Sorry Matty but from the standing umpires end playing across the line to the second ball is a recipe for disaster. Tom Dale came to the wicket and steadied the ship and by the time he was caught for 12 Flyford had moved on to 30/2 after 6 overs. Anything over 100 on a Wednesday evening makes for a decent game. At this point that was looking eminently achievable.
Flyford stuck to their task and a brisk 21 from Andy Ward who was quite beautifully caught at cow corner (which on many other days would have gone for six) began to build a highly respectable score. Steady 9s from Archie Fenn and Mark Davy and few bit part additions of which your correspondent was one, Flyford closed their 20 overs on a highly respectable 130. Giving Attwood Bank a stiff task of 6.5 runs per over. Not enough in the IPL but this was Wednesday night village!
Thankfully this week I can report fully on the Flyford bowling efforts, due to excellent work by Aaron with the tablet.
Flyford’s attack was opened by Joey Chapman and Andy Ward, in truth it was these spells which set up the win. Tight bowling from both meant that Attwood try as they might could never really get on terms with the required run rate and were always chasing the game. Joe Chapman returned 2 for 26 from 4 overs and Andy Ward 0 for 13 from 4 overs. A spell that really deserved at least one wicket.
The first change supported the openers with Aaron Monk taking 2 for 12 from his 3 overs>. Aarons was a little unfortunate not to get a hattrick when he found the edge after bagging a stumping and a clean bowled in consecutive balls. Unfortunately, the ball flew between the two slips. George Teal chipped in with 1 for 16 from 3 overs electing to vary his pace well when the batsman seemed intent on going after him.
Archie Fenn tightened the screw towards the end of the innings with a miserly 1 for 7 from his 3 overs and Josh Nullis completed the bowling with 1 for 19 from his 3 overs.
It should also be noted that Flyford managed two run outs which is testament to a marked improvement in general fielding.
Attwood Bank fell short with a total of 97-7 from their innings thus giving Flyford a 33 run victory.
So. Mark Davy marches on with another masterful victory. An unbeaten season anyone?
